Questions

Frequently asked
questions

Everything you need to know about direct-to-surface printing, in one place.

At National Wall Printers, we know you may have questions about NWP wall and floor printers, their capabilities, and how they can transform your space. Below are clear answers on printing technology, compatible surfaces, maintenance, and more — whether you manage a building, run a print or sign business, or are considering wall printing as a service.

The technology

How vertical wall printing works and what it can do.

What is a vertical wall printer?

A vertical wall printer is a technology that prints images and designs directly onto walls with precision and ease. Compared with paint or wallpaper, it offers a faster, more customizable, and highly detailed alternative for facilities teams, businesses, and professional decorators.

Using advanced software and high-quality UV-curable inks, vertical wall printers create vibrant, intricate designs on virtually any wall surface, turning ordinary spaces into works of art. Whether for institutional, commercial, or artistic applications, the technology redefines wall décor with efficiency, durability, and limitless creativity.

How does the vertical wall printer work?

A vertical wall printer operates using a piezoelectric inkjet printhead, which sprays UV-curable ink directly onto the wall with precision. As the ink is applied, a UV curing lamp instantly dries and hardens it, producing a vibrant, durable finish in seconds.

Horizontal wheels or tracks move the printer side to side while the printhead moves up and down, letting it create seamless large-format images on the wall.

How does the printer create 3D images on the wall?

The UV-curable ink is designed primarily for two-dimensional printing, but the printer can create 3D-like effects through image design techniques. Shading, framing, and perspective adjustments make a printed image appear visually three-dimensional on the wall.

Because UV-curable ink does not absorb into the surface, layering multiple passes of white ink in specific areas creates a raised texture. That allows for tactile 3D or 2.5D effects, adding real depth to the print.

How is the NWP GT3200 operated?

There are two ways to control printing:

  • Built-in computer — the printer includes an integrated computer preloaded with all necessary software, allowing direct control.
  • Wireless connectivity — connect wirelessly from a tablet, laptop, or PC for flexibility and remote access.
What software does the printer use?

The NWP GT3200 UV wall printer runs two programs:

  • RIP software handles image processing and color management. The GT3200 comes with FlexiPrint RIP, included with the printer — there is no separate license to buy or renew.
  • Control software manages printer operations, settings, and execution — NWP 2.0 GUI software.

Together they deliver precise color reproduction, efficient printing, and straightforward user control.

What types of images can the printer use?

The NWP GT3200 uses professional RIP software supporting JPEG, PNG, TIFF, and PDF. For best results, use high-resolution images at 200 to 300 DPI for sharp, vibrant, detailed prints.

High-quality images can come from professional digital cameras or be created and optimized in graphic design software such as Photoshop.

What print sizes can the NWP GT3200 achieve?

The printer is designed for large-format, high-resolution printing with flexible height options:

  • Standard printing height — images up to 6'5" (196cm) tall.
  • Extended printing height — with a 100cm vertical extension pole, up to 9'8" (296cm).

When printing extra-large images, stability matters. To prevent shaking above 7'6" (230cm), the printer uses a reinforced support pole and a solid aluminum base plate weighing 50 lbs (23kg) for a firm foundation.

Extensive testing has confirmed the NWP GT3200 remains stable even when printing images up to 11'5" (347cm).

How fast is the printer?

The NWP GT3200 offers adjustable printing speeds and resolutions, including 4, 8, 12, and 16 passes to suit different projects. At maximum speed it prints up to 3 square meters (about 32 square feet) per hour while maintaining detail and color accuracy.

What does the printer weigh?

The NWP GT3200 weighs approximately 198 lbs (90 kg). Including the five ground tracks, the total is about 265 lbs (120 kg).

For transport, the printer dismantles quickly into five main parts. The heaviest component weighs less than 55 lbs (25 kg), making it manageable to move and reassemble.

How do you set up the printer?

Setup is quick and simple, requiring just an Allen key for assembly and disassembly. The streamlined design means minimal effort and downtime before you can start printing.

What voltage does the printer use?

The NWP GT3200 supports a voltage range of 110V to 240V for global compatibility. We provide the appropriate power plug for your location, so the machine is ready to run out of the box.

What is the lifespan of a vertical wall printer?

Our philosophy is simple: we build machines that print, not machines that constantly need spare parts.

The NWP GT3200 series is engineered with high-quality, durable components for long-term use with minimal maintenance. Unlike lower-quality machines that frequently require part replacements, NWP printers are built for reliability and sustained performance.

The only regularly replaced consumables are ink, print heads, ink tubes, and dampers.

Surfaces & results

What it prints on, how it holds up, and how to remove it.

What materials and surfaces can it print on?

Equipped with high-quality UV ink and dual UV lamps, the NWP GT3200 prints on a wide range of surfaces:

  • Plaster & drywall
  • Wallpaper
  • Wood & plywood
  • Brick & stone
  • Latex-painted walls
  • Clinker & concrete
  • Plastic & PVC
  • Metal & aluminum
  • Glass & mirrors
  • Most tile surfaces

That versatility allows high-resolution prints on both smooth and textured materials, suiting interior décor, commercial branding, and artistic installations.

Different materials call for different approaches, but once you know the print settings and the preparation each one needs, moving between them is straightforward. We cover those best practices during training.

How tall an image can I print?

Up to 350cm, about 11 feet 6 inches, in a single pass.

Two things decide what you actually get, though, and the machine is only one of them. Your ceiling height matters as much as the printer does — the print head needs clearance, so the image stops roughly a foot below the ceiling.

In practice: measure the wall, subtract about a foot at the top, and that is your working height. Send us the measurements before you design the artwork and we will tell you what will fit.

Can it print on uneven floors and walls?

Yes. The print head extends and retracts up to 10 centimeters, letting it adjust to variations in wall texture. The horizontal track system keeps the machine stable and level, so prints stay high quality even on imperfect or textured walls.

Is the printed image durable?

Prints behave much like paint on the wall. The GT3200 uses UV-curable ink that bonds to the surface as it cures.

  • Indoors — expect roughly 8 to 10 years.
  • Waterproof — the cured ink is waterproof. Outdoor images may require a sealant.
  • Floors and exteriors — a sealant is often needed, and some surfaces need a primer or adhesion promoter first.
  • Handle it like paint — the ink can be scraped off, so treat a printed wall the way you would treat a painted one.

Talk to us about the specific surface and location before you plan a job. What holds up on an interior corridor is a different question from a parking structure.

How can a wall print be removed?

It depends on the surface:

  • Painted walls — paint over the print with 2 to 3 coats, then reprint if you like.
  • Glass and metal — use a scraper to remove the printed pattern.
  • Wood — light polishing or sanding removes the design.

Prints come off and go back on, so a wall is never a permanent commitment.

Ink, consumables & running costs

What the machine uses and what it costs to run.

What type of ink does the printer use?

The NWP GT3200 series uses UV-curable inks from the U.S. brand Nazdar. These inks have been tested extensively in real-world applications and are known for performance, durability, and ease of use.

One key advantage of Nazdar UV inks is their low risk of nozzle clogging, which means smoother operation and less maintenance. In inkjet printing, high-quality ink is what protects the printheads, and Nazdar inks deliver reliability and longevity for the system.

Can I use a different brand of ink?

Use Nazdar 260 or 270 series ink. This is a requirement rather than a preference, for two reasons.

  • It voids the warranty. Running ink outside those series ends your warranty coverage.
  • The colors come out wrong. The machines are optimized around the specific shades those inks produce — visibly wrong, not subtly, which is an expensive discovery on a finished wall.

You are free to buy that ink wherever you like. We stock both series, so calling us is usually the quickest route.

What consumables does the printer require?
  • UV-curable ink — for high-quality, durable prints
  • Print heads — responsible for precise ink application
  • Dampers — regulate ink flow and prevent clogging
  • Ink tubes — transport ink from the tanks to the print heads
  • Ink tanks — store the ink supply for continuous printing
  • Pump caps — assist in cleaning and maintenance

Replacing these on schedule keeps print quality consistent and the machine performing long-term.

Wipers and capping stations are wear items too, and print heads eventually need replacing. The part that matters is knowing when — replacing a worn item before it affects print quality rather than after. We show you what to watch for and how to do the replacements.

How much can one set of ink print?

A single set of ink covers both printing and routine printer maintenance. On average, one full set prints approximately 2,000 square feet, depending on ink coverage, resolution settings, and surface type.

Shelf life is about 12 months from manufacture, stored between 65°F and 90°F. We stock ink — call us and we will get it out to you.

How do you maintain the printer?

Maintenance is simple and comes down to regular care of the print head and UV lamp surface.

  • UV lamp care — wipe dust and ink residue off the UV lamp surface regularly to maintain maximum curing power and consistent print quality.
  • Print head maintenance — the key is preventing ink from drying inside. Ink left stagnant too long can clog the nozzles, so flush out old ink and replace it with fresh ink to keep flow steady.
  • Software-assisted maintenance — these tasks run through the printer's own software and take less than a minute.

What not to do

Avoid unnecessary use of cleaning and moisturizing fluids. Cleaning fluid is for clogged nozzles, not routine maintenance, and moisturizing fluid is only recommended for brand-new, unused print heads. The best cleaning solution is high-quality ink — using high-grade ink naturally keeps the print head clean and working properly.

Most daily maintenance takes only a few minutes. Routine cleaning and proper shutdown are what extend the life of the machine and keep unexpected downtime down.

Learning the machine

What the two days actually cover, and what happens after

What exactly will I learn during the two days of training?

The training is built around real jobs rather than a tour of the machine. It covers assembly, setup, software, maintenance, calibration, printing technique, troubleshooting and proper shutdown.

By the end you will have completed several prints yourself and will understand the whole workflow from artwork to finished wall.

The training page lists the ten areas it covers, from artwork preparation through troubleshooting and running the business side.

Will I actually be operating the printer, or just watching someone else?

You operate it. The best way to learn this machine is to run it.

Our technicians guide you through every step, but you do the setup, load the artwork, calibrate the printer and complete the prints. That way the process already feels familiar when you get home.

Can I bring my own artwork or real customer projects to training?

Yes, and we encourage it. If you already have customer artwork or ideas for your own building, we will use them during training wherever we can.

You get experience on the work you will actually be doing, and you leave with samples worth showing people.

I've never owned a wall printer. Can someone with no experience really learn this?

Yes. Many of our customers had never run a commercial printer before buying the GT3200, and the training is designed around that.

If you can operate a computer and you are willing to learn, you can become proficient. Confidence comes with repetition, and we are here throughout.

What mistakes do new owners usually make?

The common mistake is rushing, not operating.

A few extra minutes spent levelling the tracks, checking the spray test and running a quick test print before a large job prevents hours of frustration. Preparation is what separates consistent prints from inconsistent ones.

What happens if I forget something after I leave?

That is normal. Two days is a lot of information and we do not expect anyone to memorize it.

Technical support carries on after training, for the life of the printer. When a question comes up — setting up on site, part way through a job, or the first time you hit something the training did not cover — call us. We would far rather answer a question than have you struggle with it.

How long before I am comfortable taking on my first job?

Most people leave the two days ready to start. You will already be able to assemble the printer, prepare artwork, calibrate, print and handle routine maintenance.

We still suggest spending three or four weeks running practice prints on different surfaces to reinforce it. And you are never on your own — we are available before, during and after your first projects.

Starting a wall printing business

What operators ask before they buy

Can these printers do more than walls?

Yes, and it matters more than people expect when you are quoting work.

  • Floor attachments print directly onto floors.
  • Easels hold flat objects, so you can print on metal, glass, wood, tile, canvas, plastic and a good deal else.

A customer who called you about a lobby wall often has other work you can quote on the same visit.

What do I need to start a wall printing business?

That depends on the business you are trying to create.

If you are running this full time, we highly recommend at least two machines. There will be times when one needs maintenance or repair, and you always want to appear professional.

Many people start with one machine, and that works. But a second means printing multiple jobs on the same day is comfortable, and you have a backup for the day you need it.

How reliable are these printers?

A lot of that answer depends on you, and how well you maintain it.

These machines are made for commercial use, but understand that you are disassembling and reassembling them many times a week. Things happen, and you want to be prepared to handle them when they do.

Having spare parts, and understanding how the machine works, is vital. That is why we highly recommend training and practicing before you launch your business.

What do you do to help us get started?

We try to do a lot to help.

  • Video you can use to promote your business.
  • How to give proposals, and what to look for in your pricing estimates.
  • An online wall printing business course we recommend, with a discount for our customers.

Plus the technical support that comes with every machine, for as long as you own it.

  • Outside those hours — we will often help on Sundays and after hours, but we do not guarantee someone is available.
  • Service calls — our technicians work with you over WhatsApp. Most issues are resolved remotely; a machine can also be brought in for service.
  • Refresher training — available online at no charge.
What are the warranty terms?

A 12-month parts warranty, starting from the date you receive your printer.

  • Parts only — our technicians assist remotely, or the machine can be brought in for service.
  • Consumables — print heads and dampers are not covered, unless they are damaged during the initial installation.
  • Reasonable care — expected for warranty coverage.
  • Approved ink — using ink outside the Nazdar 260 or 270 series voids the warranty.
Do you offer refunds?

Long Island Wall Art Corp., doing business as National Wall Printers, does not offer refunds. The size, weight and type of the equipment are the reason.

Any part that is not performing will be addressed and replaced as needed.

We strongly recommend every purchaser comes in for training on how to use and maintain their machine. That understanding is vital to the use, understanding and enjoyment of these printers.
